Trust the Wise Judge

At some time or other we are all falsely accused and suffer at the hands of someone who wrongly judges us. When people speak wrongly of us the human temptation is often to retaliate or defend ourselves. Our attitude can be exactly the opposite to that of the Lord Jesus.

In His darkest hour on the cross, when He was mocked, spat upon and insulted, and where He suffered and died in agony, He didn’t retaliate, threaten or judge. He entrusted Himself to the Father who is the true and just judge.

Jesus warned His disciples of the folly of hypocritically or self-righteously judging others. As human beings it’s easy to make a wrong judgment. There’s a very narrow line between judging and discerning. Discernment is a gift of the Holy Spirit and should be used wisely.

What a lot of anguish we’d save ourselves if our attitude were the same as that of the One we profess to follow. Like Jesus, we can trust ourselves to the wise Judge. Whatever people may say against us, they can only damage our reputation. But God’s more interested in our character than our reputation. Our character is the truth of what we are in the eyes of the one who judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Prayer:Heavenly Father, Thank You for Jesus, whose attitude was humble and lowly. Forgive me for the times when I’ve retaliated when others have wrongly judged me, and for the times I have wrongly judged others. Help me to live my life in the light of Your presence, with confidence that You’re the One who judges justly. Amen.

Scripture

When they hurled insults at Him, He did not retaliate. When He suffered He made no threats. Instead He trusted Himself to Him who judges justly.
