You are Christ’s Body

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about being part of Christ’s body. I’ve come to realise in a new way that, as well as having a personal identity, I also have a new corporate identity, along with millions of other followers of Jesus, as the living body that daily demonstrates the authority, power and character of Christ on earth. Increasingly I’m understanding that we are not like a body; we are His body.

This is an awesome thought! Jesus Christ, the One to whom all authority has been given, has chosen to operate, by the Spirit, through me and everyone else who has received Him as Lord of their lives. What a privilege! What a challenge! What a responsibility to surrender my will to His will each day.

If I can really let Jesus have His way through that bit of His body which I represent, then a part of His Kingdom truly can come on earth as it is in heaven. Together with all the other parts, working in right order with each other, there should be no limit to what God could do in this desperate world.

No doubt the enemy hates the thought of this body of Christ exercising rightful and effective authority and power in a world over which Satan has been given rule, through sin. However, if I and all the other parts of the body let Jesus truly have His way and if we look for the Spirit to distribute the necessary gifting, surely miracles will follow. What an adventure!

Prayer: Jesus, You have entrusted to me and all the other parts of Your body on earth, the opportunity to let You operate through each one of us in order to establish Your Kingdom. I am ready to do my bit today. Amen.
