King Solomon writes about wisdom as a hidden treasure, and tells us how to find it. Proverbs 2:6 in the Living Bible says that by listening to the Word of the Lord, we gain the knowledge and understanding of how to apply it; ‘His every word is a treasure of knowledge and understanding.’
My son has just bought himself a metal detector, and is off to find hidden treasure. He will listen to the signals it gives and will then dig deep, hoping to discover some buried or lost treasure.
As we listen and dig deep, God says, ‘And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart’; Jeremiah 29:13. If we are really serious and wholehearted about finding God, we will not be disappointed. He promises we will find him. The Book of Proverbs is full of God’s signals and how to ‘dig deep’. Some people would like to find God, but they never get round to really looking for him. It is foolish to despise wisdom for this can destroy you. The fear (or reverence) of God is the beginning of wisdom; Proverbs 9:10.
When we have found our ‘hidden treasure’, (Jesus) and understand His amazing love, mercy and grace, like the man who sold everything he owned, to buy the pearl of great price, we will realize the matchless worth of the Saviour, and in the light of this glorious revelation we will hold Christ, as the Treasure in our hearts.
Jesus is our wisdom. 1 Corinthians 1:30 says, ‘He is the source of life in Christ Jesus, whom God made to us our wisdom, our righteousness and sanctification and redemption.'
"Wisdom, righteousness and power, Holiness forevermore. My redemption, full and sure. He is all I need." As Charles P.Jones wrote in 1906.
Prayer: Thank You Lord, that You are everything that we need. May we grow more and more in Your wisdom as we listen to Your voice. In Jesus Name. Amen.
"If you seek her as silver, And search for her as hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God."
Proverbs 2:4 –5, NKJV
