The Law
Recently in Kenya we got a new constitution and it was the people who voted on whether to accept it or not. The constitution is very important as it governs the nation. The people had to accept the law of the new constitution before it could become valid. The people of Kenya made the choice, not just the government.
Every nation and kingdom has law. Sometimes the law is good and sometimes it’s bad. But all the same the law is meant to govern the nation. The law is made by those in authority and then the people of the land must choose whether or not they will obey it. There are those who choose to break the law and the authorities have to bring them to justice and administer the appropriate penalty.
We’re part of what goes on in the world but we’re also strangers in the world. We’re part of a different kingdom, even though we’re in this world.
The kingdom we’re in has a king and a law. In other words, though we live in this world and we’re under different constitutions, we don’t live for this world. We’re looking forward to a better place, a Kingdom that’s everlasting, with Jesus as Lord and King. The Apostle Peter addresses his letter to ‘God's elect, strangers in the world… (I Peter 1: 1). We’re looking forward to the day when we will receive a rich welcome into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
The laws of God’s Kingdom are written in His Word (The Bible). Jesus always taught about the Kingdom of heaven, what it’s like, who can enter, who can’t, and what you should do to be a good citizen of this Kingdom. It’s all written in the Word of God.
These are the laws that govern us as the sons and daughters of His kingdom and we should trust in all it says in God’s Word, not just the Law, but also the promises in His Word. Our King is faithful to fulfil every word He speaks.
When the situation you are in seems impossible look at His Word, what does our king say? ‘Nothing is impossible with me’. When you’re sick, what does our king say? ‘By my stripes you are healed’. The Word He has given us is an answer and solution to all our troubles and fears.
Prayer: Dear Lord, Help me to trust in You as my King and to have confidence in Your Word. Thank You for letting me be a son (or daughter) of Your Kingdom. I put my trust in You afresh, and believe Your word for every situation I’m in at the moment, Amen.
